Biography

Born in 1947 in the town of Normanton, West Yorkshire, England. Alan's father worked as a coal miner and his mother a tailoress and home maker. Alan grew up in the local coal mining community and had no intention of following his father's footsteps.

After a mixture of employments including working for the Yorkshire Electricity Board he returned to college at Askham Bryan. Whilst there completed his studies on Green Keeping, Botany, Agricultural Mechanics and Management, and also continued his studies at Bingley St. Ives Turf Research Centre.

In 1978 he began work at the West Riding Auto. Company in Wakefield as a PSV driver. Taking to his new profession he enjoys the social aspect enormously, especially in his capacity of writing a column for the company's periodical. Whilst driving hundreds of daily passengers he overhears many conversations some funny ones, some not to be repeated and others worthy of note and elaboration. Making a mental note of these to be later put to good use in his writings.

Although Alan spends a considerable amount of time driving his passengers to their destinations he is also a family man, which as you can imagine keeps him busy but tries to devote as much time as he dare to writing.
